Karibu Kenya!

Greetings from Kenya! Bwana Asifiwe! Praise the Lord. We’re so happy to be here!

We’ve already seen God be so gracious to us.   Everyone is feeling well-  adjusting to jetlag. But already we’ve seen His hand.

We arrived last night after smooth, but long, flights across the world. The first leg landed us in London with an overnight layover which we took full advantage of.  While the majority slept, Daniel and Titus ventured out on “Operation Big Ben” to see the sights (Titus is the only Gluck who hadn’t yet seen England so they chose shorter sleep for greater adventure).  In London airport we met Steve, an airport chaplain (I didn’t know those existed). The kids were talking with him after he noticed Chloe’s “Jesus Loves you” shirt.  We got to learn about his ministry, pray together and he challenged us with the SAME scripture passage our Pastor shared on Sunday, Acts 8 (Philip and the Ethiopian), about how to listen to the Spirit’s leading and obey as/where He leads.

The next morning we awoke before the sun did and took an early morning flight to Paris (during which Chloe & Natalie made friendship bracelets for the friends in Kenya). On our last leg to Nairobi we met a fellow passenger who is a Point Loma alum – small world!.

In Nairobi, we stayed the night at a lovely hotel near the airport and have spent today resting and Daniel and JD problem solving with a few luggage mix-ups, but we’re glad to report we now have the correct luggage and only had one small bag go missing.  Grateful our church team can bring over a few replacement items for us next week.

Our first taste of Kenya came with delicious Kenyan breakfast and chai this morning of which we were ALL delighted- I may have teared up a little.  Titus spotted monkeys climbing the structure across from our hotel and we took in the humid air.  We took a short walk into town and had an eye-opening experience walking from our ritzy hotel to bustling streets, filled with trash, and people begging on the street. We love to find local super markets when we travel, and so we enjoyed walking around the store and seeing the staples and treats here and observing the slower pace.  Tonight we’ll sleep! Tomorrow we leave for Safari in the Maasai Mara.

Thank you for your prayers and support- we feel so covered and grateful that our God goes before us and gives us strength for each day.
